Multiple Disability, Moderate -Severe Disabilities
Ripley-Ohio-Dearborn Special Education Cooperative provides support to students with multiple disabilities, moderate and severe mental disabilities. Support is provided through continuum of services which range from minimal to the most restrictive, separate setting. The purpose of the program is to educate students ages Preschool -21 in their least restrictive environment. The focus of the program is determined by each student’s individualized educational plan, which is developed in by the case conference committee at the local school. In addition to the individual student needs, Indiana Academic Standards are addressed in the individualized education plan. Progress and evaluation of improvement is either based on ISTEP or an alternative assessment. The method of evaluation is determined by the case conference committee on the basis of which is most appropriate for the student. All students with multiple disabilities, moderate or severe mental disabilities are serviced in their home corporations. In addition, the programs target the outcome of personal independence. Therefore, self-help skills, functional reading and math skills, daily living skills, socialization skills, and communication skills are taught. Depending on student need, some students may receive additional services in the areas of speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavior support, or counseling.
