Visual Impairment
Ripley-Ohio-Dearborn Special Education Cooperative provides support to students with visual impairments with a full continuum of services. Typically, students with visual impairments are serviced in their home school setting. The curriculum is based on the Indiana Academic Standards with accommodations and modifications to address the individual educational needs of the student. In addition, some students may need assistive devices to be successful in the home school setting. Some provisions made to ensure student success include: orientation and mobility training, functional literacy skills, Braille, and large-print materials. In rare cases, students may require a more restrictive placement outside of the home corporation. These decisions are made by the case conference committee and are based on the individual student needs.
